A 22-year-old woman died Friday afternoon when the driver of a flatbed truck lost control of the vehicle and crashed into another vehicle parked on the shoulder of the H-3 Freeway, police said.
Emergency Medical Services officials said paramedics responded to the crash at 3:44 p.m. and “assisted in the declaration of death” of a woman.
According to a Honolulu Police Department Traffic Division report, a 24-year-old man was driving the truck “southbound on the H-3 Freeway when he lost control while veering off the roadway onto the right shoulder and collided with a vehicle parked on the right shoulder. by a 22-year-old woman.”
The truck driver remained at the scene and was not injured.
Speed may have been a factor in the crash, but alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors, according to HPD.

Due to the accident, all upwind lanes of the highway were closed at the start of the Friday evening rush hour.
This was the sixth traffic fatality on Oahu this year, compared to two at the same time in 2024, police said.

Honolulu police said in an alert after 4 p.m. that “all Kailua/Kaneohe-bound traffic on H-3 from the city side will be diverted to use an alternate route.”
Hawaii Department of Transportation officials said in a social media post: “H-3 Freeway Kaneohe-bound is closed before the Likelike exit due to a motor vehicle accident. HPD is rotating vehicles at the Haiku turnstiles.”
Motorists should expect delays and drive carefully, police said.
