Woman and man found dead in Dayton home confirm murder-suicide, coroner says

The coroner’s office has confirmed that a man and woman killed in a double shooting was a murder-suicide.

Emily Stovall, 23, died Nov. 7 from multiple gunshot wounds and the Montgomery County coroner ruled her manner of death a homicide.

Jacob Osterhaus, 25, also died at the scene. He died by suicide, according to the coroner’s office.

As previously reported by News center 7Officers and medics responded to reports of a shooting on Nov. 7 on the 1600 block of Russet Avenue.

Both Stovall and Osterhaus were found shot.

A neighbor told me News center 7 what she saw after hearing shots.

“There were people there and a gentleman said, ‘You shot her! you shot her!’ and the man of the house was screaming,” Debbie Owen said.

The police have cordoned off the street for investigation.

Neighbors say several people were in the home at the time of the shooting. The police could not confirm this.

“While all the commotion was going on, I saw a gentleman walking down the street with a child about three years old,” Owen said.

Homicide detectives were called to the scene.

Police could not confirm what led to the fatal shooting.

“We are not looking for any suspects at this time and we believe everyone is on scene,” said Maj. Jason Hall with the Dayton Police Department.

Stovall’s family cares for her four-year-old son.
