A woman in southeastern China has made national headlines after she reportedly stole the iPhone 14 Plus from a local Apple store by gnawing through its anti-theft cable.
How she did it: Security footage from the store shows the woman stopping in front of the display and examining the device for a few moments. Then, in a bizarre turn of events, she bites the anti-theft cable and chews it for a while.
The woman eventually frees the phone, which she hides in her purse. She then flees the store.
The aftermath: Reportedly the cable was cut causes an alert. However, the responding staff noticed nothing out of the ordinary. While still in the store, the woman pretended to casually browse the products to avoid suspicion. Shortly after she left, staff finally noticed the damaged cable and missing phone, prompting them to call the police.

Why she did it: The woman, identified as Qiu, was arrested 30 minutes after the incident, just before she got home. During a police interrogation, she claimed that she was actually planning to buy a phone. However, after seeing the prices, she decided to steal the iPhone 14 Plus. The device reportedly retailed for 7,000 yuan ($960).
Comments: The incident drew mixed reactions on Chinese social media. Some questioned whether Qiu knew about security cameras at all, while others poked fun at the power of her teeth.
