It takes a rookie time to get used to the NFL. But 4.21 speed will always be the fastest on the field.
When the Kansas City Chiefs moved up in the first round of the NFL Draft to draft receiver Xavier Worthy, the rest of the league had to worry. Joining Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes in the running backs of the NFL scouting combine as the record-setter for the 40-yard dash was going to be a problem.
It took one touch for Worthy to make an impact. The Chiefs gave him the ball on an end-around and Worthy showed off his breathtaking speed. He ran right past the Baltimore Ravens defense for a 21-yard touchdown in the Chiefs’ 27-20 victory in the NFL season opener on Thursday night.
Expect to see Worthy kicking into high gear and making NFL athletes look slow a lot more often.
Worthy also got behind the defense for a huge fourth-quarter play. After the Ravens cut the Chiefs’ lead to 20-17, Mahomes found Worthy down the sideline for a 35-yard score that Kansas City needed to hold off Baltimore.
There was one Chiefs receiver who looked faster than anyone on the field. Tyreek Hill watched and was impressed by Worthy’s speed after his first touchdown.
The Chiefs saw glimpses of Worthy’s playmaking ability in the preseason. They would immediately get him the ball in creative ways. The first touch became Worthy’s first touchdown. He scored his second a little later in his NFL debut.
