The two MLS conferences have new champions tonight as the LA Galaxy and New York Red Bulls booked their passage to an MLS Cup showdown next weekend.
Here’s what happened at the conference finals.
LA Galaxy 1-0 Seattle Sirens
Scorers: Joveljic 85′
A late winner from Dejan Joveljić saw the Galaxy break through and advance to the MLS Cup final.
While the Galaxy have had their way for most of the MLS Cup Playoffs thus far, the visitors from the Pacific Northwest have been as stubborn as advertised throughout the first half.
In fact, the Sounders had the better of the game in the second break, but they were hit by the prolific Galaxy attack in the final minutes as Riqui Puig slotted in Dejan Joveljić for the winning goal, leaving the home faithful in a situation. pleasure.
The Galaxy will now take on Eastern Conference champions New York Red Bulls for a chance to win their sixth MLS Cup title – and they will do it at home in Los Angeles.
Orlando City 0-1 New York Red Bulls
Scorers: Reyes 47′
The New York Red Bulls stormed into Orlando to pick up a narrow win and advance to the MLS Cup final for the first time since 2008.
The visitors were in the driver’s seat in the first half, despite a noisy crowd cheering on Óscar Pareja’s men.
But it wasn’t until after the break that the deadlock was broken when John Tolkin’s brilliant free-kick found its way into the back of the net via Andrés Reyes’ head.
While Orlando sent men forward in the final minutes to save their season, the visitors held on thanks to a heroic effort from their backline to book their passage to the final in dramatic fashion.
