Police in Berkeley are investigating a shooting in downtown Berkeley on Thursday afternoon that authorities say injured at least one person.
The Berkeley Police Department issued a news release stating that shortly after 2:30 p.m., police received multiple calls reporting gunshots heard in the area of ​​Henry St. and Berkeley Way, a few blocks west of the UC Berkeley campus. Callers reported seeing at least one person with a firearm.
Arriving officers found several bullet casings in the area, but did not find any suspect in the shooting or victims. A short time later, an individual with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound arrived at Highland Hospital in Oakland for treatment. Berkeley officers have made contact with the injured person and continue to investigate the incident.
According to police, there does not appear to be an immediate threat to the safety of the community in the area where the shooting occurred. Police will provide additional updates as more information becomes available.
