Five people were shot outside Compton College on Friday evening, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Officers said it happened at the intersection of East Greenleaf Boulevard and South Mayo Avenue around 7:45 p.m. The sheriff’s department said the shooting was not related to the college.
Scenes of crime surrounded what appeared to be a backyard pool party attended by about 100 people, officers said.
According to police, at least six people were shot, one of whom died. The Compton Fire Department said three of the victims were women and two others were men. One of the men died on the way to the hospital.
The CFD also requested assistance from the LA County Fire Department.
A suspect description or motive was not immediately available.
