MILWAUKEE (CBS Chicago) — Eleven people were injured Saturday afternoon when an escalator malfunctioned at American Family Field in Milwaukee following a game between the Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers.
After the game ended, an escalator running from the terrace to the box seat broke down and began to accelerate, the Brewers said in a statement.
Eleven people on the escalator were injured at the time, the Brewers’ statement said.
Five people were treated at the stadium and six others were taken to area hospitals. Their conditions were not reported, but their injuries were not life-threatening, the Brewers said.
“Our local physician and paramedics responded immediately and we are grateful for their quick response,” the Brewers said.
The Cubs won the game 5-3.
American Family Field, perhaps better known as Miller Park until the end of the 2020 season, first opened at the start of the 2001 campaign.
Last December, Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers signed a bill that would provide the Brewers with more than $500 million in state money to make needed stadium improvements by 2050.
