15-year-old arrested after Placer manhunt leads to closure of child care center, church

Authorities have arrested a “dangerous suspect” after a manhunt for the young suspect prompted a lockdown at a child care center and Catholic church in Roseville Wednesday morning.

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office said in a series of social media posts that deputies were trying to pull over a suspicious blue sedan near Blackwood Lane and Kenwood Way around 7 a.m. when the 15-year-old driver sped out of the car jumped and ran away. The police do not want to say why they consider the car suspicious.

While searching for the suspect, officers set up a perimeter around Fiddyment Road, Baseline Road and Junction Boulevard west of Roseville. The nearby Play Care Learning Center on the 4000 block of Baseline and the adjacent St. Clare Catholic Church were placed on lockdown as emergency crews searched for the teen.

At 10.20am, officers said they arrested the boy when they saw him “in a field, jumping over a fence”, ending the lockdowns. The Sheriff’s Office said the 15-year-old would be arrested, but the charges he faced were not immediately clear.
