16-year-old stabbed on train 2 in third knife attack on metro in two weeks

A 16-year-old boy suffered head injuries after a collision with another passenger on a subway in the Bronx, police said Wednesday.

Police said it was the second violent attack in the city in 24 hours, and the third knife attack on the subway in the past two weeks.

Police have released a photo of the suspect in Tuesday morning’s attack in the hopes someone will recognize him.

The teenager was on the Manhattan-bound 2 train at around 2 a.m. when he got into an argument with the suspect, whom he did not know.

The nature of the argument was not immediately disclosed.

As the two attacked each other, the suspect pulled out a knife and slashed the teen in the head as the train pulled into the Prospect Avenue station.

The suspect got out at the station.

Emergency services rushed the teenager to Harlem Hospital, where he was treated and released.

In an unrelated incident about 22 hours later, a 45-year-old man was slashed in the face and neck when he was attacked by another man outside Stuy Town on E. 14th St. near First Ave. at 11:50 p.m.

The victim was taken to Bellevue Hospital. The man who attacked him ran away and was still at large Wednesday.

Tuesday’s train attack was the third knife attack on the metro in the past two weeks.

On Friday, a 26-year-old man was slashed in the face at the 72nd St. station near Broadway on the Upper West Side after he accused his attacker of jumping a turnstile, police said.

When the victim confronted the fare dodger, the two got into an argument, after which the suspect punched him and hit him in the face, before running away.

On August 24, Nigel Dumas, 33, was stabbed in the chest on a Line 2 train in the city centre. He and his alleged killer, who were in separate carriages, looked at each other through the window between the carriages, sources said.

As the two struggled, Dumas pulled out a knife. Suspect Shane Cunnison, 37, wrestled free from his opponent’s hands and then plunged the knife into his chest.

The clash was gang-related, officers said. Cunnison was charged with manslaughter.

By mid-August, the number of attacks on the city’s metro system had fallen by 4%, from 382 to 364, police said.

The man wanted in connection with Tuesday’s attack is described as black, approximately 5-foot-9, 165 pounds with a medium build. At the time of the attack, he was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and black and white sneakers.

Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact NYPD Crime Stoppers at (800) 577-TIPS. All calls will be treated confidentially.
