17-year-old arrested in connection with Pompano Beach shooting near high school, police say

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred near a high school earlier this month, according to the Broward Sheriff’s Office.

During a football game at Blanche Ely High School on October 5 at approximately 9:45 PM, BSO Pompano Beach deputies responded to reports of a shooting near the area.

At the scene, emergency responders found one victim, whom they have yet to name, with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and took him to the hospital, BSO spokeswoman Claudinne Caro said in a Tuesday news release.

During their investigation, detectives later learned that Lauderhill Fire Rescue transported Chris Williams, a second person with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, to a local hospital.

Detectives quickly ruled out that the shooting occurred in connection with the school.

BSO noted that a tip from Crime Stoppers helped them make an arrest.

Last Friday evening, investigators arrested Nicolas Yves Achille, 17, in Fort Lauderdale. He was treated at the Juvenile Assessment Center for two counts of attempted first-degree murder.
