Long Beach police sent a SWAT team to a neighborhood Monday morning where two people were killed after a gunman opened fire.
The apparent shooting occurred around 11:15 a.m. in the 300 block of East 63rd Street. When officers arrived, they found a woman with gunshot wounds to her upper body and a man with unknown injuries. The man died at the scene while paramedics took the woman to a local hospital, where doctors later pronounced her dead.
Investigators set up a perimeter around the block after suspecting the shooter had run into a nearby building.
Officers were still attempting to make contact with the man when the SWAT team arrived.
Detectives have not yet been able to determine a motive for the shooting.
