Oct. 7—CALUMET, Minn. — Two people have been hospitalized after a shooting that occurred Monday morning in Calumet, about 20 miles northwest of Grand Rapids.
According to a press release from Itasca County Sheriff Joe Dasovich, law enforcement officers responded to a shooting incident in the city of Calumet in the early morning hours of Monday, October 7.
Two people suffered gunshot wounds during the incident. One victim is being treated at the Grand Itasca Clinic and Hospital in Grand Rapids, while the second has been taken to a medical facility in Duluth. No updates on their terms have been provided.
Three suspects have been arrested and are currently in custody. Dasovich said there is no risk to the public at this time and that the firearm believed to have been used in the incident has been recovered.
“This is an ongoing and active investigation,” he said in the news release. “We are working hard to gather all relevant information and will provide updates as they become available. The safety of our community is our top priority and we are doing everything we can to ensure that all necessary resources are devoted to this investigation.”
Assisting at the scene were the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension; Coleraine, Grand Rapid and Nashwauk police departments; and the Minnesota State Patrol.
