A massive fire destroyed the Lake Chabot Public Market building in Castro Valley early Thursday morning.
At the building at Lake Chabot Road and Quail Avenue, which houses several restaurants in a food court-style facility, fire shot from the roof during the incident that started around 2:30 a.m.
The fire reached three alarms before firefighters were able to knock it down. Part of the building’s roof collapsed during the fire, the Alameda County Fire Department said.
According to the fire brigade, no other buildings in the area were at risk.
There was no immediate word on the cause of the fire. No injuries have been reported.
