Durham police have charged three people with murder in the September slaying of 23-year-old Dashaun Johnson of Durham.
Officers responded to a report of a gunshot wound around 6 p.m. on September 15 in the area of ​​Glenbrook Drive and Dubonnet Place. They found Johnson, who was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries and later died.
Marcus Beatty Jr., 22, Elijah Page, 20, and Simone Cameron, 19, have been charged with first-degree murder, according to a news release.
Additionally, both Beatty and Cameron have also been charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. All three suspects are being held in the Durham County Jail without bail.
Murders down in Durham this year
As of November 2, 31 murders had been reported in Durham.
That was down from 42 and 39 murders on the same day in 2023 and 2022 respectively, police statistics show.
