PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Police are investigating after a convenience store in Philadelphia’s Mayfair neighborhood was robbed by three men armed with guns Saturday night.

The incident happened around 9:10 p.m. at the Emporio Latino Grocery at 2800 Tyson Avenue, just 10 minutes after the store was normally scheduled to close.

According to police, three women, a 37-year-old and two 42-year-olds, were leaving the store through the back to close for the night when three armed men approached them and forced them back inside. Speaking to reporters on Saturday night, police initially said four armed men had entered the store.

According to detectives, one of the women was attacked by the men and their phones and an “unknown amount” of money were stolen.

On Saturday night, police told CBS News Philadelphia that the suspects forced the women to the ground before fleeing. The undisclosed amount of money was described as a “significant amount.”

“There were no customers in the store that we are aware of at this time, only the three employees,” Philadelphia Police Inspector D.F. Pace said Saturday. “No one was physically injured during this incident and the thieves got away with a significant amount of cash.”

The three women later found their phones at 2900 Princeton Street, police said.

Police said the suspects were seen on surveillance footage wearing masks and gloves before leaving the store in a silver sedan. Police did not immediately provide a photo of the suspects.

According to police, no shots were fired during the incident.

Northeast detectives are investigating the incident.
