3 Things You Don’t Buy at Costco But Should

When you think of shopping at Costco, your mind probably goes to giant packs of toilet paper or industrial jars of peanut butter. Buying these household items there is great because you can save money and have a large supply on hand so you don’t run out.

But Costco offers much more than just deals on the basics. In fact, some of the warehouse club’s best savings can be found on products you might never think to buy there. Check out these three Costco items you probably aren’t buying that could net you some great deals.

1. Gift vouchers for other merchants

Gift cards are an easy thing to overlook in the big box store, but if you’re not checking them regularly during your Costco visits, you’re missing out. Starting June 22, 2024, you can snag some great deals, including:

  • A $500 Southwest Airlines gift card for just $449.99

  • $100 in Spafinder gift cards, valid at salons and spas nationwide, for $79.99

  • $100 worth of Domino’s Pizza gift cards for $79.99

These are just a few of the many bargains you can get at Costco. By checking the gift cards regularly, you can keep your credit card bill low by getting deals even outside of the warehouse club. Just be aware of the occasional limits Costco places on gift card purchases – for example, each member can buy up to five Southwest Airlines gift cards in one transaction.

2. Regulations

Costco offers great deals on prescription medications, for both of you And your pet. You can participate in the Costco Member Prescription Program if you do not have insurance to cover medications. This would save you up to 80% on prescription medications. Costco’s pharmacists will even work with you to find the cheapest deals.

Even if you Doing have insurance, Costco still offers cheaper deals with lower coinsurance costs. For example, the blood pressure medication metoprolol tartrate (a generic version of Lopressor), costs $13.99 for 180 25 mg tablets at Costco, while the same medication costs $24.99 at Walgreens.

If you are on prescription medications, there is little reason to overpay for them. You can buy them at Costco and probably get a good deal.

3. Holidays

Costco offers great vacation deals that can save you a lot of money. For example, it is possible to get a vacation package at Waikiki Beach Marriott Resort & Spa. Costco’s price for an ocean view room for two adults is $2,036.84 for a stay from July 21 to July 26, 2024 and it includes:

  • A $120 digital Costco store card

  • A $150 resort credit per room per stay

  • Mandatory daily resort fee of $50 is included

The same room costs $2,145 if you book directly with the hotel, and does not come with the resort credit or Costco shopping card. And if you’ve signed up for Costco’s Executive Membership, you’ll also get 2% back on your trip, so you end up saving even more.

As you can see, you’re leaving money on the table if you’re not buying prescriptions, vacations, and gift cards at Costco. Fix that by checking out these items the next time you visit the warehouse.
