5 teens arrested – Woodland police say they tried to wire the car using a USB cable

Five juveniles were arrested Tuesday morning after police say they tried to steal a car in Woodland.

Officers were called to the 800 block of West Lincoln Avenue about 1 a.m. after a neighbor told Woodland police they saw the youths smash the rear window of a vehicle before attempting to wire the car using a USB charging cable.

A photo shared by police showed a dark gray sedan with its rear passenger window smashed. “While you were sleeping, they should have been sleeping,” officers said in announcing the arrests.

The neighbor had called the police when they saw the youths breaking the steering column ignition and officers caught up with the group “a short distance” and detained them.

The five suspects, who have not been identified due to their age, have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy and attempted theft of a vehicle. They were transferred to the juvenile detention center on the other side of town.
