A five-year-old boy is in critical condition after being pulled from the water following a kayaking accident on the Connecticut River Saturday afternoon.
The Connecticut Environmental Conservation Police, Connecticut State Police, Haddam Fire and Haddam Volunteer Ambulance responded to a report of a boating accident involving a kayak with two occupants on the Connecticut River near Depot Hill Road in Haddam, according to the Connecticut Department of Energy and environmental protection.
The boy and an adult man were in a kayak when they ended up in the water around 3:15 p.m., DEEP officials said.
The boy was rushed to Middlesex Hospital and later transferred to Connecticut Children’s Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition. According to DEEP officials, the man refused medical attention.
The incident is being investigated by EnCon police.
