VERO BEACH – A 68-year-old woman has died following a fire early Saturday morning in the Woodlawn Manor mobile home community, according to officials.

The 3:54 a.m. fire occurred in the 500 block of Fourth Street, according to Sgt. Kevin Jaworski. The location is just west of US 1 in south Vero Beach.

Detectives responded to the 55-plus community after someone was heard screaming for help. “Officers arrived on scene and found the home fully engulfed in flames,” Jaworski said.

Investigators were told that a woman was present in the home, but this was not reported. Indian River County Fire Department officials arrived on scene at 4:05 a.m. and reported the fire was under control by 4:29 a.m.

A fire official reported that a 68-year-old woman was killed. No other information was immediately available.
