Police recovered more than $200,000 worth of Nike Jordan shoes during a California Highway Patrol operation in Anaheim on Friday morning.
The department arrested seven people while allegedly transporting the stolen goods in a U-Haul box truck. The group allegedly stole the shoes from a train container near the remote Mojave Desert community of Amboy, California. The group allegedly drove the boxes filled with Jordans nearly 200 miles to Anaheim.
The CHP Border Division’s Cargo Theft Interdiction Progam tracked the suspects’ U-Haul and an attached pickup truck and stopped them at 11:25 a.m.
When searching the vehicles, officers found burglary tools allegedly used to break into the train container, as well as the shoes.
The seven suspects were booked into the Orange County Jail for grand theft charges.
“The quick actions of our CTIP unit and patrol officers demonstrate CHP’s commitment to combating organized cargo theft and ensuring the recovery of stolen property,” said CHP Border Division Chief Tommie Cocroft.
Investigators asked anyone with information about the case to call the Major Crimes Unit at (858) 944-6300.
