A 73-year-old woman died on Sunday after being hit by a train.

Officers and medics responded to the Norfolk Southern Railway intersection near North 12th and “E” Streets in Richmond, Indiana at 12:41 a.m. on reports of a person struck by a Norfolk Southern Train, a police spokesman said. Richmond.

Upon arrival, they found the victim identified as Carolyn Rose, 73. Medics took her to Reid Health, where she died from her injuries.

“Our hearts are broken by this devastating loss,” said Richmond Police Chief Kyle Weatherly. “Mrs. Rose was a member of our community and this tragedy is deeply felt by all of us. Our thoughts and prayers are with her family as they navigate this incredibly difficult time.”

Preliminary findings indicate Rose walked directly into the path of the train for unknown reasons and no foul play is suspected at this time, the spokesperson said.

The crash is still under investigation.
