76ers All-Star Tyrese Maxey is reportedly out for “a few weeks” due to a hamstring injury

The Philadelphia 76ers’ season could be cursed.

ESPN’s Shams Charania reported Thursday that Sixers star Tyrese Maxey is expected to miss a “few weeks” with a right hamstring injury.

Maxey injured his hamstring on Wednesday evening against the Los Angeles Clippers. He left the game at the end of the third quarter and was replaced by Jared McCain to start the fourth. The Sixers lost 110-98.

The start of the 2024-2025 season was very unpleasant for the Sixers. It started with an investigation into how the Sixers were managing Joel Embiid, who was unable to start the season on time due to a knee injury. Paul George did not start on the opening night due to a left knee contusion. Then, Embiid was suspended three games for pushing a reporter who brought up his late brother in a column critical of Embiid’s work ethic. (Embiid has also been given a technical foul from the sideline this season, before even taking the field.)

Now they are 1-6 with their only win coming in Game 3, a 118-114 overtime victory against the Indiana Pacers.

What’s worse for the Sixers is that with Embiid and George out, they’ve had to rely very heavily on Maxey in this early stretch of games. Now he will be missing from the picture for a few weeks.

On the plus side, the Sixers just got George back from his injury, and once he shakes off the rust, he will be able to help provide the backbone that Maxey has been able to give this team. Additionally, Embiid is expected to make his season debut next Tuesday against the New York Knicks. They won’t be at full strength, but it’s much better to have two of their stars back than just one.
