MANITOWOC – A 78-year-old Madison man died Saturday night after he was struck by an SUV while crossing the street on Maritime Drive.
Manitowoc police and firefighters were dispatched to the intersection of Maritime Drive and Huron Street just before 9:30 p.m. on September 14 for a crash involving a single vehicle and a pedestrian in the roadway.
According to a police press release, witnesses reported that the pedestrian was walking westbound on Maritime Drive and was struck by an SUV traveling southbound.
The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries. His name was withheld by police pending notification of family.
The driver of the SUV was a 78-year-old California man who was uninjured. His name was also not released by police.
The Wisconsin State Patrol is working on a crash reconstruction, while the investigation remains ongoing between police and state police.
