Avelo adds 27th city to CT flights; doubling flights to Puerto Rico this winter

Avelo Airlines announced Tuesday that it will begin offering direct flights to Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport in New Orleans from Tweed New Haven Airport starting Nov. 14. It will be the 27th destination from Tweed.

Flights to New Orleans depart from Tweed on Thursdays and Sundays. Introductory fares start at $79. Passengers must also pay for seat selection and checked baggage. Reservations can be made at aveloair.com.

Breeze Airways expands to second CT airport, increasing competition for travelers.

The budget carrier also announced it will double its flights to San Juan, Puerto Rico, this winter. Beginning Nov. 8, Avelo will fly to Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport four times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Avelo will begin flying to San Juan on Nov. 15, 2023.

Avelo also said it will double its fleet of Boeing Next Generation 737-800s based in Tweed to eight. With two planes in Florida dedicated to flights to Connecticut, more than half of the company’s 19 planes will be dedicated to Connecticut, the company said.
