Report: Patriots trade 4-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Matthew Judon to Falcons

The New England Patriots are trading four-time Pro Bowl pass rusher Matthew Judon to the Atlanta Falcons, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports.

According to the report, the Falcons will send a third-round draft pick to New England in return. Judon was on the verge of being traded due to a contract stalemate and drew interest from multiple teams, according to multiple reports. Wednesday’s trade resolves the situation in New England as the Falcons add a significant upgrade to their pass rush.

Judon is approaching the final year of a four-year, $54 million contract and is due a $6.5 million salary this season. He sat out the Patriots’ training camp briefly while seeking an extension, but has recently participated in Patriots practices.

He will likely also seek an extension in Atlanta. Early reports do not indicate whether the Falcons plan to negotiate a new deal with Judon.
