2 people injured in shooting near Benihana in Dearborn

Dearborn police are investigating a shooting in Benihana, near the Fairlane Mall, that left two people injured.

Police responded to the incident around 9 p.m. Monday night in the 18000 block of Hubbard Drive in Benihana. Authorities said both parties were involved in a parking lot shooting and have not yet located the person who fired the first shot.

The shooting victims were taken to hospital and are in stable condition, authorities said.

“I can tell you it appears to be a targeted attack and robbery is not the motive,” said Dearborn Police Chief Issa Shahin.

Police are currently investigating the incident and are asking residents to avoid the area while the investigation continues.

The incident, not far from the University of Michigan-Dearborn, prompted a warning from the school for students to avoid the area, before being told the area had been secured and they could resume normal activities.
