PHILADELPHIA (CBS) — Stormy weather will be the norm as we head into the Labor Day holiday weekend, but it will NOT be a wash out. Showers Thursday night will clear up early Friday morning, but cloud cover is expected to persist much of the day, though a few rays of sunshine can’t be ruled out. That said, temperatures will remain cooler than normal for late August, with highs in the upper 70s.

Overall, Labor Day weekend isn’t looking too bad, but we will have to deal with a few cold fronts moving through the region. Saturday looks to start off dry with a mix of sun and clouds and highs in the mid 80s. Showers and storms will develop Saturday night ahead of a primary cold front moving through the area early Sunday morning.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible Saturday evening into Saturday night ahead of the main cold front. At this time, the threat of severe weather appears relatively low, but the NEXT Weather team will continue to monitor the chance for a few stronger storms. After the first front passes, the widespread showers will taper off into early Sunday, but a mix of clouds will remain through Sunday. Highs on Sunday will again be in the mid 80s.

A secondary cold front will move through the area Sunday night into Monday morning, setting up a nice pattern that will carry us through the first half of next week. High temperatures for our Labor Day will be in the low 80s under mostly sunny skies. Low temperatures will stabilize in the mid to upper 50s for at least the first half of next week with highs on Tuesday and Wednesday in the mid to upper 70s.
