Mets call up Luisangel Acuña from Triple-A Syracuse

Luisangel Acuña gets a call from The Show.

The 22-year-old prospect is expected to join the Mets on Saturday from Triple-A Syracuse, SNY’s Joe DeMayo confirmed. No corresponding move has been announced.

The decision to recall Acuña follows shortly after Francisco Lindor leaving Friday’s 11-3 win over the Phillies with back pain in the seventh inning. While Lindor hopes he won’t miss much, if any, time, Acuña’s presence gives the Mets more depth in the infield.

Acuña, who was acquired in a trade with the Rangers last season, and the Mets’ 12 playersand– ranked prospect by MLB Pipeline, has spent the entire 2024 season in Triple-A. His biggest strength is his speed – 40 bases swiped in 131 games this season.

At bat, he batted .258/.299/.355 with seven home runs, 50 RBI and a .654 OPS.

Acuña is the younger brother of Atlanta Braves star player, Ronald Acuña Jr.
