52-year-old man killed in Myakka City crash, collided with oncoming truck: officers

A 52-year-old man was killed in a crash in Myakka City on Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

The Lithia man was driving a pickup truck south on South Duette Road, approaching Bradenton Arcadia Road at 4:32 p.m. A second truck was driving north on South Duette Road, approaching the first pickup truck. The pickup truck crossed into the northbound lane and collided with the left front of the opposite truck, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

The driver of the pickup truck died at the scene and the 43-year-old second driver from Lake Alfred was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

As of Sept. 26, there have been 4,507 crashes in Manatee County in 2024. Of those, 37 were fatalities and 3,237 were injured, according to the Florida Crash Dashboard. There have been 4,867 crashes in Sarasota County in 2024. Of those, 41 were fatalities and 2,979 were injured, according to the Florida Crash Dashboard.

FHP will continue its investigation into the crash.
