CHICAGO (CBS) – Chicago police are warning the public about multiple carjackings and burglary-related incidents that occurred on the city’s north and south sides over the weekend.
Six of those incidents occurred on Saturday and three more on Sunday – all in the early morning hours.
In each incident, two to four unknown masked perpetrators, armed with handguns, approached the victims and demanded their property, including their vehicles.
The thieves also entered businesses by damaging the windshield and doors and taking property from inside.
Incident times and locations:
- 8100 block of South Calumet Avenue at 2:20 a.m. on September 28
- 8400 block of South Stony Island Avenue on September 28, between 3:00 a.m. and 3:10 a.m.
- 2100 block of South Archer Avenue at 5:40 a.m. on September 28
- 2100 block of South Archer Avenue at 5:55 a.m. on September 28
- 2400 block of North Clark Street on September 28 at 6:03 am
- 900 block of West Diversey Parkway on September 28 at 6:48 am
- 6300 block of West Irving Park Road on September 29 at 2:49 am
- 1700 block of West 87th Street at 3:57 a.m. on September 29
- 9900 block of South Western Avenue at 4:18 a.m. on September 29
The perpetrators are said to be wearing hooded sweatshirts, masks and gloves and armed with handguns
Police remind the public:
- Remember any unique physical features (scars, acne, teeth, etc.).
- Never chase a fleeing attacker; pass the information on to the police.
- Report suspicious activity immediately.
- Keep doors and windows secured.
- Repair broken windows, doors or locks immediately.
- If video surveillance is available, save the incident and make a copy of it for investigating detectives.
- If you are a victim, do not touch anything and call the police immediately.
