Northern California is preparing for an October heat wave this week, with thousands of people now experiencing power outages.

Due to the increased risk of wildfires, more than 13,000 customers in parts of 13 counties and two tribal areas could be affected by public safety power shutoffs on Monday and Tuesday, according to PG&E.

The county with the largest number of people affected is Shasta, where 7,709 people lost power, according to PG&E.

Butte and Tehama are also experiencing significant outages, with more than 1,500 people in each county in the dark.

PG&E says customers should have known about the upcoming shutoffs by early Saturday.

Which counties will see PG&E power shutoffs?

PG&E says they predicted a total of 13,455 customers in Northern California would have their power turned off.
