John Mozeliak has one season left in charge of the St. Louis Cardinals.
The organization announced a number of front office changes on Monday, one day after the 2024 season officially ended. They included Mozeliak, who stepped down as president of the team’s baseball operations after the 2025 campaign.
Current advisor and former Boston Red Sox executive Chaim Bloom will then replace Mozeliak. Bloom was hired ahead of the 2024 season and will now be tasked with overseeing the team’s player development system before taking on the top role in St. Louis.

“Chaim Bloom will oversee a reset of our player development system, effective immediately,” Cardinals owner Bill DeWitt Jr. said. “As part of his review this past season, Chaim developed a plan to improve our player development infrastructure and philosophy.
“We will now be making significant new investments in workforce programs and infrastructure, beginning immediately and continuing over the coming years… We are excited about the future and committed to seeing this multi-year plan to fruition.”
Bloom signed a five-year deal that will see him remain president of the team’s baseball operations through the 2030 season.
Mozeliak first took over as the Cardinals’ top executive in 2008. Under his watch, the team won the World Series in 2011, claiming six division titles and two National League pennants. They have also recorded just one losing season in that span.
However, the Cardinals have struggled in recent years. They went just 83-79 this season, missing the playoffs for the second year in a row, and they haven’t won a playoff series since 2019.
Mozeliak says @TheCatOnBallyTV: “I could have been fired today, right? And then eventually they would have gotten in, someone would have to reassess where we are and we would just be wasting time. … Now, if we hand over the keys for Chaim he can hit the ground running to go.” #STL cards pic.twitter.com/wTWOPFbd7T

“I could have been fired today, right?” Mozeliak told Bally Sports Midwest. “And then eventually they would have come in and someone would have to reassess where we are, and we would just be wasting time. … If we hand over the keys to Chaim like this, he can get started right away.”
The Cardinals also announced that general manager Michael Girsch had been rehired to become the team’s new vice president of special projects. Girsch, who was hired in 2006, will not be replaced next season. Manager Oli Marmol will also return to the club next summer. Marmol just completed his third season with the Cardinals, marking his first managerial role in Major League Baseball. He has a career record of 247-239.
