Liz Cheney has little ‘Faith’ speaker Johnson who would confirm an election victory for Harris

Former Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney is not confident that House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) would support a peaceful transfer of power if Vice President Kamala Harris wins this year’s presidential election.

Asked whether she believes Johnson would deliver a Democratic victory in January, Cheney told NBC News’ Kristen Welker on “Meet the Press” Sunday: “I have no confidence that Mike Johnson will fulfill his constitutional obligations.”

The Wyoming Republican reminded viewers how the Speaker of the House of Representatives supported Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election, despite his claims of election interference being repeatedly debunked by multiple sources.

“He has a record of repeatedly doing things that he knows are wrong, that he knows are unconstitutional, to appease Donald Trump,” Cheney said of Johnson.

Referring to an interview Welker did with Johnson just before Cheney’s interview on “Meet the Press,” the politician said, “Frankly, you just saw that sycophancy on display.”

Given conservatives’ weak promises, Cheney also told Welker that she believes Democrats must win a majority in Congress to ensure fair results.

“I think it is very important that Republicans will not be in the majority in the House of Representatives in January 2025,” she said.

During Johnson’s sit-down, he pledged to certify a “free, fair and legal election,” still leaving room for his party to reject the results over misleading claims of voter fraud.

And in a separate Sunday interview with CBS’s “Face the Nation,” he said bluntly: “I think there will be cheating in this election.”

Meanwhile, Trump is already preparing his supporters with excuses to deny a possible election loss.

Last month, he told a group of North Carolina law enforcement officials that election interference is the only thing that can keep him from winning. At another event in Las Vegas in September, he said he has a “good lead” in the polls but warned that Democrats plan to “cheat like hell.”
