Oct. 15—The University of New Mexico Hospital Community Engagement Department hosted its fifth annual emergency blanket distribution event Tuesday.
The department purchased 8,000 emergency blankets which were in turn given to community organizations in Albuquerque that support the homeless.
In addition to distributing blankets, the hospital’s Behavioral Health Services department presented information to community groups about the services it provides to the homeless. The New Mexico Harm Reduction Collaborative also distributed Narcan, a rescue drug used to reverse an opioid overdose.
“We have a heart to serve, and this (general distribution) is aligned with our mission,” said Sally Acosta, a community engagement liaison for UNMH. “It is an honor to support our community.”
