Oct. 25 – A manager was charged with third-degree grand larceny and falsifying a business document following an investigation into missing money and products from a store on Main Street in Newfane.
Niagara County sheriff’s deputies were called to the store Tuesday, where they were met by a regional asset protection manager and a district manager. They told officers they were called to the store to investigate discrepancies with overnight deposits. During that investigation, a 37-year-old manager of the store was confronted and admitted to stealing $21,381.82 in overnight store deposits as well as various merchandise, including cigarettes.
Store officials said they were alerted to the theft after receiving a cash alert from the company’s treasurer’s department on Oct. 8 that the bank had not made a deposit. It was later confirmed that the bank missed deposits on October 8 and also from October 11 to October 20.
After speaking with company officials, deputies said the manager provided a written statement regarding his involvement in the crimes following his arrest and was taken to the Niagara County Jail for arraignment.
