🚨 Spain Women strike allows to draw against Canada Women

Scorers: Martin-Prieto 89′;Alidou 49′

Canada Women held reigning world champions Spain to a 1-1 draw in Almendralejo as Marine-Yasmine Alidou and Cristina Martin-Prieto found the net.

Spain, who won the 2023 World Cup, dominated possession and had the majority of attempts on target but were unable to find a breakthrough in a relatively one-sided first half.

But a few minutes after half-time they fell behind thanks to Alidou, who had only come on as a substitute at half-time.

She was found on the edge of the Spanish penalty area after a break in Canada and took her time before finding the bottom corner with exquisite precision to grab her first senior goal in her third cap.

It proved to be Canada’s only shot on target in the match, but it almost proved decisive as they held out against Spain after normal service resumed in the aftermath of the goal, with Spain scoring an impressive 30 shots, 10 of which were on target.

But in the 89th minute their hearts were broken when Cristina Martin-Prieto was left unmarked in the six-yard box to blast home a header and level the match in the closing stages with Spain’s tenth attempt on target.
