Dan Campbell: Jameson Williams is worth hanging out with

Lions head coach Dan Campbell said last week that the team would support wide receiver Jameson Williams in the wake of his two-game suspension for a performance-enhancing drug violation and delivered another show of support for Williams on Wednesday.

Williams is confronted an indictment for carrying a concealed weapon after being found in possession of a firearm during a traffic stop earlier this month. Williams was released without being arrested or cited at the time of the arrest and Detroit police are investigating why that was the case.

The Lions released a statement saying Williams had informed them of the incident and Campbell said the same at the start of his press conference. Campbell acknowledged that it “certainly doesn’t look good” but that “we’re good” with Williams because he has been fair to the team. Campbell was then asked if he thinks Williams, who was also banned in 2023 and now faces another ban, is aware of how quickly his career could disappear if there were ongoing off-field issues.

“I think so,” Campbell said. “I think he’s become more and more aware of that over time, and I think so. For me, I judge people by what is in their hearts. I know what this kid is made of and he’s worth hanging out with. He will learn from this, he will grow, he will be better from it.”

Williams is serving the second game of his PED suspension this week, so the Lions will have to make do without him as they try to beat the Packers.
