Goshen fire chief honored with state award

Nov. 1—GOSHEN — Retiring Goshen Fire Chief Dan Sink received Indiana’s State EMS Director’s Award on Thursday, recognizing his 43 years of service to the department.

Travis Clary, EMS manager for State EMS Districts 1 and 2, presented the award in Mayor Gina Leichty’s office on behalf of State EMS Director Kraig Kinney of the Indiana Department of Homeland Security.

“Danny is recognized for his service to the fire community and for promoting ambulance service throughout Indiana,” the plaque reads. “(He) is a respected EMS provider and contributes to the state’s story.”

Sink joined the Goshen Fire Department in 1981 and served as a Parkview Samaritan flight paramedic within the department from 1991 to 2010. He became chief in 2005 after serving as assistant chief and EMS chief.

“Chief Sink’s leadership and experience will be greatly missed,” said Mayor Leichty.

Last month, Sink was also named Indiana Fire Chief of the Year. He will retire on November 8 and hand over command to Assistant Chief Anthony Powell.
