DETROIT – You might want to grab your umbrella before heading to the polls on Tuesday because rain is expected across much of Michigan.
Although the forecast says Detroit will be mostly dry, much of the state is expected to see wet, dreary conditions on Election Day, National Weather Service meteorologists said.
Above-average temperatures approaching record levels will increase in the Great Lakes this week, according to the weather service. A low-pressure center will move quickly northeastward over the Great Lakes Tuesday evening, and the trailing cold front will weaken over time, the service said.

Will it rain in Detroit on Election Day?
Detroit will have a warm, mostly dry Election Day, with potentially record highs, according to the National Weather Service in White Lake. The high Tuesday could reach 77 degrees. The record high for Nov. 5 in Detroit is 74 degrees in 2022, according to the weather bureau.
Prepare for a windy afternoon, with gusts up to 40 mph, the NWS said. There is a small chance of rain, about 20%, the weather bureau said. Showers are possible after 7 p.m
Will it rain in the Grand Rapids area on Election Day?
Prepare for rain in Grand Rapids all day Tuesday, according to the NWS in Grand Rapids.
According to the weather forecast, there is a 100% chance of precipitation, with wind gusts of up to 55 km/h, the weather bureau said. Highs will be in the low 70s, which will make for a warm, wet day, according to the NWS.
Will it rain in the Lansing area on Election Day?
Expect a wet, warm Election Day in Lansing, with highs in the low 70s and a 70% chance of rain, according to the NWS in Grand Rapids. There is a chance of isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon, with wind gusts up to 70 kilometers per hour, the weather bureau said.

Will it rain in the Upper Peninsula on Election Day?
Marquette will be cool and wet Tuesday, with cloudy skies, according to the NWS in Marquette. Expect highs in the low 50s and an overall 100% chance of rain, with rain ending late this evening, the weather bureau said.
Saul Ste. According to the NWS in Gaylord, Marie will be wet and unseasonably warm in early November. Expect highs around 60 degrees, 13 degrees above average for Nov. 5 in Sault Ste. Marie, according to the weather bureau. According to NWS, expect widespread rain in the morning and early afternoon, releasing in the late afternoon and evening.
