PARIS (AP) — Prosecutors and police investigators specializing in combating fraud and corruption raided Netflix offices in France and the Netherlands on Tuesday in an investigation into suspected financial misconduct, judicial officials said.
French and Dutch authorities have been working together for months on the investigation, which focuses on suspected money laundering tax fraud and off-the-books work, said a judicial official in France who spoke on condition of anonymity because of French secrecy laws governing judicial investigations .
French police investigators have carried out searches at the streaming giant’s French headquarters, the bailiff said. Investigators from a police brigade specializing in major tax fraud, money laundering, corruption and white-collar financial crime were joined by officials from France’s national prosecutor’s office, which also fights financial crimes, the official said.
The investigation was opened in November 2022, the official said.
In the Netherlands, Dutch prosecutors also raided Netflix’s European headquarters in Amsterdam. Emma Bosma, spokesperson for the National Office for Serious Fraud, Environmental Crime and Asset Confiscation, said the raid was carried out at the request of French authorities.
Netflix did not immediately respond to a written request for comment sent to the online media center about the raids and investigation.
