Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant warned on Tuesday of a “moral darkness” in the country following his dismissal by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Gallant cited three points of contention with Netanyahu: his demand for an agreement to release hostages held by Hamas; his call for the creation of a commission to investigate the October 7 attacks on Israel; and his opposition to a law that would exempt many religious extremists from military service.
He also warned that Israel faces many challenges in its fight against arch-enemy Iran and its proxies.
Netanyahu has appointed Israel Katz, who previously served as foreign minister, as Gallant’s successor.
