Idaho’s two Republican incumbent members of Congress filed for re-election on Tuesday in hopes of returning to Washington, DC
U.S. Rep. Mike Simpson is seeking a fourteenth term representing the state’s Second Congressional District. He has done so since 1999 in the seat that represents residents of East Idaho and part of Boise.
He faces three challengers: Democrat David Roth, 43, of Idaho Falls; Libertarian Todd Corsetti, 61, of Pocatello; and perennial candidate Idaho Law-Carta Sierra, 69, of Pocatello, who represents the Constitution Party.
Simpson, 74, of Idaho Falls, comfortably defeated two rivals in May’s Republican primary to reach the ballot in Tuesday’s general election.
Polls for the 26 counties that make up the 2nd Congressional District will close at 8 p.m. Mountain Time. The first results will follow.
Meanwhile, U.S. Rep. Russ Fulcher is seeking his fourth term representing Idaho’s 1st Congressional District. He has represented the seat of the western half of Idaho – including the Panhandle and part of Ada County – since 2019.
Fulcher, 62, of Meridian ran unopposed in the Republican primary in May and thus automatically advanced to Tuesday’s general election.
But this time, Fulcher must defeat three challengers for his seat: Democrat Kaylee Peterson, 34, of Eagle; Libertarian Matt Loesby, 33, of Eagle; and Brendan J. Gomez, 25, of Boise, for the Constitution Party.
Peterson ran against Fulcher just two years earlier and earned 26% of the vote, compared to 71% for the incumbent president, who won his third term in 2022.
In some of the 19 counties that make up the 1st Congressional District, polls close at 9:00 PM Mountain Time (8:00 PM Pacific Time).
