Thousands in Israel demonstrate against the plundering of Gallant

For the second evening in a row, several thousand people demonstrated in Jerusalem late Wednesday against the dismissal of Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu fired Gallant on Tuesday because he had lost confidence in him.

Protesters took to the streets on Wednesday calling on Netanyahu to reverse the resignation, Israeli media reported.

Protesters also called for a compromise with the militant Palestinian Hamas in the Gaza Strip to free the roughly 100 Israeli hostages still held there, and for the scrapping of planned exemptions from military conscription for ultra-Orthodox men.

In addition, the demonstrators pushed for an investigative committee to be established to investigate the October 7, 2023 Hamas massacre in Israel, which left 1,200 dead and 250 initially kidnapped.

The Israeli military and intelligence services were taken completely by surprise by the attack.

Gallant had also supported these demands, which was one of the reasons he had fallen out of favor with Netanyahu.
