The far-right AfD is demanding an immediate vote of confidence from Scholz

Following the collapse of the center-left coalition in Berlin, the far-right opposition party Alternative for Germany (AfD) is demanding that Chancellor Olaf Scholz immediately request a vote of confidence in the lower house of parliament, the Bundestag.

AfD co-leader Alice Weidel said after a special meeting of the AfD faction in Berlin that Scholz had long lost the public’s trust.

“He must pave the way for new elections, for an immediate vote of confidence,” she stressed, adding that the vote should take place as early as next week.

Postponing the confidence vote until January 15, as Scholz plans, would be irresponsible, Weidel said. She described the end of the coalition as a blow to liberation.
