The uncle of a 6-year-old boy who accidentally committed suicide in late September was placed in handcuffs Wednesday as investigators claim the young boy’s death was at his hands, authorities said.
On September 30, the Broward Sheriff’s Office said Carika Hall, 25, was allegedly monitoring Odaine Hall at his home in Tamarac. Odaine found an unsecured gun and shot himself.
Officers and Tamarac Fire Rescue arrived on scene and found the boy suffering from a single gunshot wound. He died in the house.
On Wednesday, officers arrested Carika at his home and charges are pending for culpable negligence and neglect of a child.
“BSO urges gun owners to properly secure their firearms and practice essential gun safety tips,” the sheriff’s office said. “A firearm should always be unloaded and stored in a locked storage container that is not easily accessible to minors. This will protect children and adults by preventing accidental shootings and incidents like this.”
