Rain, rain and more rain. Western Washington is facing more soakers amid storm systems

I hope you enjoyed the short dry spell and perhaps completed some lingering garden clean-up. However, you probably won’t be using your rake much in the short term, because the rain will return here and the mountains will be covered with snow again.

Temperatures The Western Washington lowlands will remain mild this week, with highs in the 50s and lows in the 40s, but rain is forecast every day through Thursday.

The National Weather Service in Seattle predicts a “much more active” system will develop Sunday and continue through the week with rain, localized areas of gusty winds and mountain snow.

Snow levels are initially forecast Sunday night around 5,000-6,500 feet, before dropping to 3,500-4,500 feet later Monday through Tuesday for higher mountain snow, including State Route 20 and Washington Pass.

Wind gusts of up to 55 kilometers per hour are possible on the coast on Sunday night.

A stronger system is forecast for the region late Tuesday through Thursday, bringing more rain, mountain snow and more localized windy conditions, especially along the coast and areas north of Everett.

Flood conditions are expected this week on the Skokomish River in Mason County, while other rivers, especially in the central Cascades, could also experience flooding.

In addition to the expected coastal winds, the weather service is also warning of potentially high surf Monday evening through Tuesday, and coastal flooding later this week.

So far, it looks like the clouds will part for a two-day break of sunshine on Friday and Saturday, but that will bring lows in the 30s and highs in the 40s.
