Police are searching for a suspect accused of fatally shooting a man in Santa Fe

Nov. 10 – Santa Fe police are searching for a man allegedly involved in the shooting of another man early Sunday morning.

Santa Fe Deputy Chief Benjamin Valdez said an arrest warrant has been issued for Antonio Montejano, 24, of Santa Fe, who is charged with open murder in the fatal shooting of Rosendo Romero, 40.

Valdez said police responded around 3 a.m. to a man who was shot after an argument in the 3700 block of Camino Tierra Real, near Airport Road and Aqua Fria Street. The caller also told police that the suspect – later identified as Montejano – ran south after the incident.

Valdez said when officers arrived, they tried unsuccessfully to save Romero.

He said Montejano was believed to be fleeing with a firearm used in the shooting.

“If you see Mr. Montejano, do not approach him as he is considered armed and dangerous and call 911 immediately,” Valdez said.

Valdez said anyone with information about the shooting can contact Detective Anthony Sweeny at 505-955-5401 or arsweeny@santafenm.gov.

According to court records, Montejano pleaded guilty in 2019 to conspiracy to shoot at a dwelling or occupied building after he and another person shot up a house and vehicles near Aqua Fria.
