Visitation announced for 15-year-old high school senior killed in accidental shooting

A visit has been announced for a 15-year-old high school student who was killed in a shooting Saturday evening.

Ray Estep passed away on Saturday. He was a student at Kenton Ridge High School and was on the bowling team, according to a tribute on the Littleton & Rue Funeral website.

As previously reported by News center 7Clark County Sheriff’s Office deputies and medics were called to the 4400 block of Reno Road Saturday around 6:37 PM.

A group of teenagers were hanging out when the shooting happened.

“An ill-timed horseplay situation involving a firearm,” said Clark County Sheriff’s Lt. Kristopher Schultz.

A 16-year-old brought a gun to the party.

“The youth with the firearm that went there was there as a guest. He did not show up unexpectedly,” Schultz said.

The teen pointed the gun at the victim and pulled the trigger.

Officers say the magazine was removed from the gun and the teen thought it was empty.

A single bullet remaining in the gun was fired, hitting Ray Estep in the torso.

The teenager was taken to hospital, but died from his injuries around 7:35 p.m

Visitation for Ray Estep will be on Sunday, November 17, 2:00 PM – 6:00 PM, at Littleton & Rue Funeral Home. A private service will be held on Monday.

News Center 7 is not naming the charged teen because we do not routinely name juveniles unless they are charged in adult court.
