Ironman Arizona closures and other Phoenix-area highway restrictions to watch for this weekend

According to the Arizona Department of Transportation, several improvement projects will require closures and restrictions along portions of Valley highways. Here’s what you need to know before you head out this weekend, November 15 to November 18.

Interstate 10

Restrictions eastbound from 10pm Friday to 4am Monday

Eastbound I-10 will be narrowed to two lanes. The right lanes will be closed between the Interstate 17 Split interchange near Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and US 60 (Superstition Freeway) due to work on the Broadway Curve Improvement Project.

Driveway closures from Friday 8 p.m

All eastbound and westbound I-10 ramps to eastbound US 60 will be closed.

The ramp from southbound I-17 to eastbound I-10 near Sky Harbor Airport will be closed.

The US 60 eastbound ramp at Priest Drive will also be closed.

Detour

ADOT proposed using eastbound Loop 202 (Red Mountain Freeway) starting at the State Route 51 Ministack interchange to southbound Loop 101 (Price Freeway) in Tempe.

Drivers can also use westbound US 60 or westbound Loop 202 (Santan Freeway).

Loop 202

Closure eastbound Saturday 12:00 noon to 12:00 noon

Eastbound Loop 202 will be closed between McQueen and Cooper roads in the southeast Valley due to sign structure removal as part of a widening project.

The westbound Loop 202 HOV lane will be closed between Cooper and McQueen roads.

Closure westbound Sunday from 12:00 noon to 12:00 noon

Westbound Loop 202 will be closed between Cooper and McQueen roads due to sign removal.

The eastbound Loop 202 HOV lane will be closed between McQueen and Cooper roads.

Detour

ADOT suggested using Pecos or German roads.

Closures and Restrictions for Ironman Arizona Sunday from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m

State Route 87 will be narrowed to one lane in each direction between McDowell Road (north of Loop 202-Red Mountain Freeway in Mesa) and Shea Boulevard in Fountain Hills.

Westbound McKellips Road will be closed between Loop 202 and Alma School Road. The Loop 202 eastbound exit at McKellips Road will be restricted.

ADOT said to expect other local street restrictions in the area, allow additional travel time and to exercise caution.

Detour

Alternate routes include eastbound Shea Boulevard from Loop 101 in Scottsdale to SR 87 in Fountain Hills.
